So, where does the challenge lie?
First, it must be affirmed that in the textile and garment industry, quilting is a demanding craft that requires high technical skills and many intricate manual processes. Therefore, very few people choose to pursue it. Quilting products are inherently special and not designed for mass consumption. Due to the complexity of production and the lack of professional scale, the cost of quilting products is often high — making them less accessible to the general public.
In the United States — the cradle of modern quilting — quilting remains largely an artistic pursuit of dedicated quilters, often showcased in exhibitions, museums, or specialized communities. While these activities bring remarkable artistic value, they unintentionally make quilting an academic, niche concept, separate from the broader consumer market.
In Vietnam, quilting is still a relatively new concept. Before HQQuilt came into existence, quilting activities existed only at an individual or small-group level, driven by personal passion and hobby. This fragmentation prevented quilting from developing into a true and structured market.
